As we all know, many plastic products are made of  ABS. However, what is the ABS?  Let's know more about it together.

The full name of ABS is Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene plastic. The ABS RESIN is one of the five major synthetic resins. The color is usually light yellow or milky white granular non-crystalline resin. It is often used in plastic processing or mixing.  It is a polymer synthetic material and one of the most widely used plastics at present. Therefore, it is widely used in industrial fields such as machinery, automobiles, electronic appliances, instrumentation, textiles and construction. However, why can it be widely used in engineering? This is related to its main characteristics.

Firstly, ABS is a resin with very good comprehensive properties. It has high impact strength and surface hardness in a relatively wide temperature range, has a higher heat deformation temperature than PA and PVC, and has good dimensional stability. Secondly, Plastic ABS has good electrical insulation and is almost unaffected by temperature, humidity and frequency, and can be used in most environments. Finally, ABS is not affected by water, inorganic salts, alkali alcohols and hydrocarbon solvents and various acids.

However, because ABS is one of the most widely used plastics at present, many people will wonder whether ABS plastic is toxic? In fact, most ABS is non-toxic and impermeable to water, but is slightly permeable to water vapor and has a low water absorption rate. The water absorption rate does not exceed 1% in one year when soaked in water at room temperature without any change in physical properties.

In summary, ABS is a plastic variety with excellent comprehensive properties. In future, ABS resin has still obvious advantages in the competition of engineering plastics. However, in the market of modified ABS materials now, many businesses use recycled materials to reduce costs, but this results in the performance of the products received by customers being unstable. Therefore, when purchasing products made of ABS, you should pay attention to identify whether the merchant has used second-hand materials.
