Sheet metal is sometimes used as a pull metal. The word comes from the English platemetal. Generally, some metal thin plates are plastically deformed by hand or die stamping to form the desired shape and size, and can be further formed into more complex parts by welding or a small amount of mechanical processing.

The basic equipment used for sheet metal generally includes Shear Machine, CNC punching machine/laser, plasma, water jet cutting machine (Laser, Plasma, Waterjet Cutting Machine)/combination machine (Combination Machine), folding Bending machine and various auxiliary equipment such as: uncoiler, leveling machine, deburring machine, spot welding machine, etc.

The stamping process is the production technology of the product parts with certain shape, size and performance by means of the power of conventional or special stamping equipment, so that the sheet material is directly deformed and deformed in the mold. Sheet metal, mold and equipment are the three elements of stamping processing.

Stamping can be called a process in sheet metal processing.
